The use of tonometry to measure Intra Ocular Pressure (IOP) is the only real tool for the screening of glaucoma. Traditional tonometers determine pressure by repeatedly pushing an instrument against the cornea and calculating the force necessary to flatten the cornea. The TonoVet uses a newer technology called "rebound" tonometry. The portable hand held unit is positioned 1/4" away from the cornea. At the push of a button, a tiny probe painlessly and rapidly reaches out and touches the cornea. Six rapid measurements are taken in seconds! The unit is self-calibrating with its own software and it is the size of a cell phone. It has been approved for use on all veterinary patients. It has a limited four year warranty. It runs on 4 AA batteries and has a measurement range of 1-99 mm Hg.
