Antihistamines are used to help relieve the effects of histamines. Histamines are a chemical created when your body comes into contact with an allergy. Antihistamines come in a couple of different types, you can get them in tablets, liquid medicine, injections, eye drops, nose drops, nasal sprays, and creams and ointments. Antihistamines are classified into two groups. First Generation or sedating antihistamines may cause significant drowsiness when taken. Second Generation or non-sedating antihistamines typically cause less drowsiness, but when taken drowsiness may still occur.
