Vital signs are clinical measurements that indicate the state of a person's essential body functions. The four main vital signs are pulse rate, temperature, respiration rate, and blood pressure. Blood pressure has two numbers to monitor. One is when your heart beats and one is when your heart is at rest. Normal pressure for adults is between 90/60 and 120/80. A normal heart rate depends on multiple factors like your age, how much you exercise, weight, and more. Respiratory rate measures your breathing. The normal respiration rate for an adult at rest is 12 to 20 breaths per minute. Under or over that could be considered abnormal. Normal body temperature can range between 97 and 99 Fahrenheit. The average is 98.6 F. A temperature that is above 100.4 F is called a fever and a temperature below 95 F is hypothermia. Oximeters measure the level of oxygen in a persons bloodstream.
