Iodine povacrylex, one of the active ingredients in DuraPrep solution, has special attributes not found in povidone iodine. DuraPrep solution is persistent at least 48 hours against resident bacteria after a blood and saline (fluid) challenge. Surgical teams should apply surgical preps accordingly to manufacturer's directions. Each individual wrapped sterile applicator preps at least an 8" x 10" area.
