Using artificial tears or lubricating eye drops for dry eyes, may provide quick relief. Artificial tears are available over-the-counter and are available in a wide variety of ingredients and viscosity. Artificial tears with a low viscosity are light and watery, they provide quick relief with little or no vision blurring. The downfall of a low viscosity eye drop is that the soothing effect is very short-lived. High viscosity artificial tears which may be more like a gel can help provide longer-lasting relief but can cause significant vision blurring for several minutes.
