Salines is a mixture of sodium chloride and water. Salines can be used to clean wounds, help to remove contact lenses, and help with dry eyes. By an IV Injection, saline may be used to treat dehydration. Sterile waters for injection are typically used for fluid replacement after suitable additives are introduced. Ringers Lactate Solution or sodium lactate solution is a mixture of sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride, and calcium chloride in water. It is used for replacing fluids and electrolytes in those who have a low blood volume or blood pressure. In Veterinary use, it may be used for the treatment of palliative care or chronic renal failure in small animals.
